The SMS printer is a project I creadted stemming from the simple question: what has happened to paper in the age of the digital? From this I set about developing a modern upgrade of the loved but fogotten fax machine, creating my interptetation of its update; a printer for text messages. A way to store words physically.
The SMS printer can be used for a number of applications from practical to sentimental; a pleasant alternative to our screen-based lives. Little paper statements floating in from accross the airways.
The printer works by combining a GSM plateform using common SIM card, a thermal printer that can be found in any cash register machine and a beloved Arduino that deals with those two hardware pieces. Any text message sent to the SIM card number will be directly outputed via the thermal printer and directly deleted from the SIM memory.
